About Course
Excel for Auditors: original institutional case
Analyse eight synthetic Lakeview Institute transactions using stable transaction IDs. Reconcile invoiced KES 501,600 to payments of KES 500,600, investigate one missing purchase order, and review repeated vendor-and-amount combinations. A matching amount is an exception requiring evidence, not a fraud finding.
Assessment route
- Calculate invoice-to-payment differences and classify missing purchase orders.
- Use COUNTIFS with exact vendor-and-amount criteria to flag repeated combinations. Trace each flagged pair to source records and supporting documents.
- Prepare an exception register with scope, criterion, evidence, exposure, management response, reviewer and date.
- Review formula references, hard-coded overrides, hidden rows and control totals; retain the original input extract.
- Summarise financial-statement exposure and unanswered questions without claiming a misstatement before corroboration.
Excel 365 users may additionally use XLOOKUP and Power Query; the core task is compatible with traditional Excel functions. Learner and instructor workbooks are prepared separately. The course remains a draft until secure downloads, lesson quality, assessment and instructor-role tests pass.
